Time Happens Some More. WTF? August, September.
WTF = Where's the Flowers? I need flowers. Also poetry.
Oh, well, what’s going on around here? Lots and lots of behind-the-scenes bits, and an occasional surprise poetry explosion (see, for example, the Crafted Cadence Open Mic Poetry Night, which I showed up at last night - where I was treated to the inimitable “Crowfather” (Nick), Taiwana Shambley, and Douglas Kearney).
I might show up at Poets & Pints (apparently, this month, called, wait for it, “In Person: Multiverse: Poets & Pints 111 featuring Michael Bazzett and Bailey Hutchinson at Sisyphus Brewing”) - at Sisyphus Brewing - but that seems increasingly unlikely as my sleep window shrinks 🥱. Michael Bazzett is a fabulous poet, though, and though I don’t know Bailey’s work, it’s probably also amazing.
I’m not going to make any Re-Verb Open Mics for a while yet (class on Thursday nights), but it’s still going on over at Flava Coffee & Cafe, and it’s a fabulous way to spend a couple hours on any given Thursday.
I am going to be sharing some poetry - a full set - at the opening reception (Friday, August 30th, 7pm - 9pm, doors open at 6:30, light snacks) for The Art of Resistance: Art by Zhi Kai Vanderford, at Xia Gallery & Cafe, over in St. Paul (422 University Avenue). Zhi Kai is a transgender artist, activist, writer, and elder. This exhibit curates the artwork he’s created while incarcerated in the last 37 years. Facebook event — RSVP here.
September 3rd is the next Better Things gathering & open mic, at Moon Palace Books, 7pm. There may or may not be an entirely unofficial but extradimensional cake intervention involved, too.
I’m planning on being at BuckSlam on September 11th.
And (fingers crossed) finally getting back to Re-Verb on September 12th! And hopefully more Re-Verbs following that.
As of right now, those are my upcoming writing events. For the most up-to-date view, including last-minute additions I forget to add here, keep an eye on my events calendar. In the meantime, stay safe out there 😊.
