In This Body, This Fruit, Davi Gray maps the vast terrain of gender identity, holding space for experiences of transition as well as everyday existence:
“to be a new creation on the earth— / something wild, uncaught, / something never before seen.” Addressing a wide range of subjects, including mathematics, biology, language, religion, and classical mythology, Gray explores the entrenchment of binary systems and how they serve and fail us, in poems that radiate with intense curiosity and deep thought. With unflinching honesty, Gray unsettles the binaries of everyday life and bears witness to the burden of violence trans and gender nonconforming people endure to survive.
