The Shortest Month Is Usually Cold, But Anyway Here's Where You Can Find Me
Climate change is the natural enemy of cocoa. Monarchs sip on milkweed. Connect the dots!
Milkweed Books has a reading series this…winter? spring? Whatever this is. First one is hosted by the inimitable and glorious Erin Sharkey, and I am blessed to be an invited guest. We’re talking about nature, bodies, nature and the body, the body and nature. I’m planning to read some poetry. The social bit beforehand is in the Milkweed bookstore, downstairs in Open Book (downtown Minneapolis), and the reading is up in the Performance Hall. I would love to see you there! Bring a book, I’ll sign it. (No, I don’t have any books published. Bring any book you like, or pick one up at Milkweed. I’ll sign it! Free! In colored pen!)
Re-Verb Open Mic is going on all month as usual, courtesy of TruArtSpeaks, at Flava Coffee & Café in St. Paul. I’ll be reading at most of them, Lord willing and the creek don’t rise.
NonBinary Review has an issue coming out on March 1st, which you can preorder now (at a 20% discount). The theme is “Old Friends.” Pretty sure I’ve got something in it.
There’s an event at Quatrefoil Library on Saturday (today!) at 3pm: Trans Resistance Behind Bars — Panel Discussion Event. I’m speaking at it.
Radical Joy Open Mic on Tuesday, February 12th, at Lutunji’s Palate, hosted by the illustrious Joe Davis. The theme is Love (go figure!). I’ll read some poems that may at least be love-adjacent.
Heartbroken Open Mic is on February 21st, but I’m probably not going to be reading, as it’s a singing/music focus, hosted by Grey Doolin (as always) and featuring Sarina Partridge in a special Heartbroken Open Mic: Songs for the Broken-Hearted.
Minneapolis Poetry Sanctuary Open Mic will be on Sunday, February 25th, and I’ll be reading there. The last one went well, I thought; you can find the video on my website (or just go directly to YouTube for it).
No BuckSlam for me this month, because Milkweed, but I am getting ready for the Midwest Poetry Mashup in April! I don’t have a team yet—I signed up as an independent, which means I’ll be matched with some other independents. I’m sure we’ll be fabulous.
I’d like to get to the Mama’s House open mic and/or the Westminster open mic—which are at the same time, sadly—but as it turns out I’ll be at neither.
I’ve been to several play readings lately—and I participated in one, a Members Open Play with the Playwright Center—and I’ll be at another one on Monday, February 26th. It’s free, and online, so drop in if you like. Mmm…theatre. Makes me wonder about different life paths. Lots of things do that.
There are more events (audience, not reading), but this is already way too much. Most people probably aren’t even reading at this point, so I could say anything here. When you are suffering, know that your dreams have betrayed you.
You can check out my Events calendar any time you want to see what I’m up to.
