I feel strange getting to know someone only after their death. Or, more accurately, learning a tiny slice of the full kaleidoscope of a human life, after that person is no longer adding new shards (but still, as long as there is memory, refracting). It doesn't feel useless, exactly; more like loss. I wish I had known them. I have known many others like them—but then, we all have. All of us, human.

The book is Dressing the Bear (winner of the 2023 Louise Bogan Award), by Susan L. Leary. This was a tough read to do all in one day, but well worth reading.
I finished this book yesterday but didn’t get to the post until today. I’ve already finished today’s book; look for Post #17 whenever I get to it 😉.
