I tried to even out the distribution a bit by choosing a book from the leftward side of the… heap? One definition for heap is “a collection of things thrown one on another,” which is not correct for a sideways pile, but another is “a great number or large quantity.” Perhaps appropriate right now, but it will become less so each day. My search for the perfect word continues.
August 4th - Book Four (Nomadic Press)
Number of Pages: 85
Start Page: 1
Number of Poems: 30
Time Reading: 41 minutes
The book is Duende, by Tracy K. Smith. I recently bought this from the Bargain Books shelf at Moon Palace Books, my favorite Twin Cities bookstore 🥰. Great poet, but I much prefer Life on Mars to this collection.
Duende’s actually hard to find at bookstores; you may have to check eBay (where there are several copies).
TIL there’s another collection of poetry titled “Duende,” by Quincy Troupe, an American poet perhaps best known as biographer of Miles Davis/co-writer of Miles: The Autobiography.
Tomorrow, another book!
