Queer Voices reading 6/10 @ Mpls Central Library
(I'm not reading at it, but I'll be there!) Also, some stuff I did this weekend.
Thirty years of Queer Voices — a celebration & reading at the Minneapolis Central Library, Saturday, June 10th, at 2 pm. There will be some amazing writers reading at this, including Marlin Jenkins, Roy Guzmán, Junauda Petrus, Erin Sharkey, and Sun Yung Shin. I wouldn’t miss this reading for cake! And guess what! They’re gonna have cake, too!!! 😁🍰
Saturday I went to the fourth and final event in the Quatrefoil Library’s Spring Poetry series, Speculative Catalogues, featuring Allison Blevins and Amie Whittemore reading from their new books. It was a sparse crowd — the gorgeous weather and Art-a-Whirl too great a temptation for most, I’m sure — but those of us present were treated (I think that’s the right word…poetry’s a treat even when, or maybe especially when, it’s painful? In a good way?) to poems about MS and zombies (not really, the zombies were not in the poem, but Allison talked about them, so they were there in spirit, if zombies can be considered to be anywhere in spirit, which is a question for theologians and/or zombisticians) and — Amie’s science fiction — black holes and alien interpretations. A good time was had by all. Or so I claim, and you can’t prove any different.
You can probably tell from this visual treat that I am definitely a professional graphic designer. I am available for commissions! Hit me up at TheBestArtistOnTheInternetIfYouAreNotPayingMuchAttentionButAlsoAtLeastYouCanTellThisIsNotStableDiffusion@No.Sorry.JustKidding.lol.
Friday I went to an art gallery opening in Uptown. Saw some paintings (look, I’m not here to talk smack about anybody else’s art, this is not that kind of Internet), some people (none of whom I knew), and a fabulous selection of snacks. Free snacks. The saddest part of the whole thing was that I’d eaten only a couple hours earlier, so I couldn’t take full advantage of the snacks.
(Some people I didn’t know, in a very small space, looking at art. But mostly drinking wine, from what I could tell.)
Snacks!
I also went to Lush to watch Ru Paul’s Drag Race with a crowd of people of whom I knew very few. But the crowd was lively and the hostess, Domita Sanchez, was enthusiastic and funny. The food looked pretty good, but I was full of shrimp and cookies, so I just had ice water with a slice of lemon. It was delicious!
Get out, enjoy the weather, if you can. This life doesn’t last forever. That’s why I ate this for breakfast on Saturday morning:
It’s a bowl of bran flakes, with sliced strawberries and whipped cream.
Because why not?
