Poetry That Blows Your Head Off
Went to a reading, part of me is still there, may always be there....
It’s what the best poetry does. I went to see Telling Truth with TaneshaNicole & Ollie Schminkey: Tanesha Nicole Tyler and Ollie Schminkey at the Quatrefoil Library, part of the library’s Spring Poetry Series. Tanesha Nicole started off with their poem “This Body,” and they only got…well, I don’t know if I can say “better”—because how do you go up from there?—but they kept going. Both TNT (an entirely apt initialism) and OS were astonishing. TaneshaNicole recited several pieces, read some others; Ollie read new work along with some poems from their recently released collection Dead Dad Jokes. At the end they did a group piece that was one of a kind. Like nothing I’ve ever seen before. (Sorry, I’ve run out of superlatives.)
Only one more event in the poetry series, Allison Blevins and Amie Whittemore in Speculative Catalogues: A Poetry Reading, on May 20th. Tickets are free.
