Oh October. You sneak.
Some stuff is happening, again! But this is the last one this year, I can (almost) promise.
Sorry, this is late, or early, depending on your time zone and/or habits. 🤷🏼♀️
Today (!) I’m going to be reading some poetry at the Cannon Falls VFW, as part of the Sogn Valley Art Fair. I have literally never been to Cannon Falls before, so… adventure!
I kind of like how their logo reads better, though: “Cannon City of Falls.” Redolent of some sort of steampunk war, firmly embedded in the pages of a well-thumbed hardcover book remaindered from the library’s shelves.
On Monday, October 7th, from 7-9pm, you can find me at the Quatrefoil Library, where I’m taking part in a Queer Voices “Out in the Stacks” panel, Where Does Your Identity Live? - on identity, craft and queer embodiment. There Will Be Snacks. And some fabulous conversations. Bet on it.
October 9th, second Wednesday of the month, I plan to stop by BuckSlam to do a little…you know. Poetry 😁. It’s at Moon Palace Books, 7-9pm (doors at 6:30). There’s an event on Facebook, if that’s how you roll.
I should be able to pop out to the Re-Verb Open Mic, hosted by TruArtSpeaks at Flava Coffee & Cafe every Thursday from 6-8pm, for the last 3 weeks in October (assuming they’re doing Re-Verb on Halloween, which maybe not).
On Monday, October 21st, I’ll be guiding a (free) spoken word practicum: it’s a chance to bring a poem or two (or three, if you’re ambitious, deluded, or both) and work on your reading technique, with opportunities to give and receive constructive feedback. Register here if you’re interested in attending.
Fourth Fridays (including, I assume, October 25th, though I haven’t seen the announcement yet) are the Queer Open Mic at Eat My Words Bookstore. Last month, after sharing poetry &c., we all sat around making zines 🥰. I made a cute one.
Toward the end of the month, a capstone event for the year: the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop’s Annual Student Reading. It’s going to be amazing — always is! And you can attend in-person or via livestream (register via Zoom). I’ll be there; it’s The Place To Be.
Hope you’re having a wonderful time out there. Get out and get you some fall while you can! It doesn’t last forever… 🌨️
