July, August, whatever. Updates: I'm a winner! Also, Poetry magazine finally fixed me.
A mishmash (since the late 15th c., Middle English 'mysse masche') of updates.
Another sound garden is upon us, this one in the Phillips neighborhood, specifically at the HeartSpace Garden. I’ll have a poem there, and if you stop by around 5pm, you can hear me read it.
I won at BuckSlam! Next BuckSlam is at 7pm on August 14th, at their new venue, Moon Palace Books.
Most of my event recaps get posted to Instagram (and duplicated to Facebook) these days, but I really love this picture, so I’m posting it here, too 🤭. The poem I performed in the second round will almost certainly make an appearance in the Finals, assuming I make it there, next spring 😉.
I immensely appreciate Re-Verb as a space to share and experience art in community, but I’m going to have to miss out for a couple months. That doesn’t mean you have to! Get on down to Flava Coffee & Café on Thursdays, 6-8pm, where TruArtSpeaks hosts the 🔥🔥🔥.
Poetry magazine has finally corrected my name, so I’m now happy to link to my poem, “Disaster Is in the Eye of the Beholder.”
There’s also a well-written analysis (am I biased? Of course! Doesn’t mean I’m wrong, though) on the SPAM zine&Press website: “(SPAM Cuts) ‘Disaster Is in the Eye of the Beholder’ by Davi Gray.”
Lots of other good stuff coming up, too (not my joints, just stuff to check out):
Love in a Time of War reading, July 31st, 7-9 pm, Pangea World Theater, 711 W Lake St #101, Minneapolis, MN 55408. I have other things I normally do on Wednesdays (like Neil Hilborn’s Zoom writing circle), but I cannot pass this up!
AMN Films presents: AMN (written & directed by Jai Stephenson), July 26th at 6pm, The Capri Theater, 2027 W Broadway, Minneapolis, MN 55411. Free screening, no tickets required.
Phre$h Fridays - Dual Citizen Brewing (725 Raymond Ave, St. Paul, 55116) - check out the fantastic singer & performer Nana J! Also featuring DJ Still Phresh, Tre Scott & Jus Dru, and Quell6Twelve.
Have fun & stay safe out there.
