I'm back, baby! Right on time for 2025.
Coming off sabbatical...and I'm on fire. In a good way. (Is there a good way to be on fire?)
I’ve spent the last several weeks deeply and deliberately focused on healing. I’m thoroughly exhausted—I mean “refreshed”—by my time away from the noise & bustle of the world, and ready to get back to it 😅. Here’s what’s coming up!
January 4th (Saturday, 1pm): I’m a panelist for Intergenerational Non-Binary Stories, at Queermunity. My first chance to visit the space, and I’m thrilled to be there talking about gender! This is a free event.
January 7th (Tuesday, 7pm): Better Things gathering and open mic, hosted by yours truly, along with my colleagues Erin Sharkey and Louise Waakaa’igan. Held at Moon Palace Books, 3032 Minnehaha Ave., Minneapolis, MN. This is a free event, and masks are required.
There’s an event on Facebook, or you can add it to your Google Calendar or download an ICS file to add it to other calendars.
January 8th (Wednesday, 7pm): BuckSlam! I’ve had to lie back the past couple of slams, but I’ll be there this time. If the numbers are good to me, I’ve got some poems to share 😉. This event is held at Moon Palace Books, and masks are required. The entry fee is one dollar, but no one is turned away for lack of funds (NOTAFLOF).
January 9th (Thursday, 6pm): Back to Re-Verb Open Mic, at Flava Cafe - hosted by TruArtSpeaks, every Thursday from 6-8pm. Mmm-mmm good.
January 14th (Tuesday, 6pm): My first chance to check out the Next Level Joy! Open Mic, hosted by Lt. Sunnie at Lutunji’s Palate, 1400 Park Avenue South, #1010, Minneapolis, MN.
January 22nd (Wednesday, 6pm): Last but far from least, I’m leading a BuckSlam poetry workshop on revision. (Revision sometimes feels like the hardest part of writing poetry, but it often leads to the greatest rewards. Mmm-mmm good.)
There are only 15 seats, so register soon! This workshop is free, and will take place at Boneshaker Books, 2002 23rd Ave S, Minneapolis, MN.
There is more content coming Real Soon Now, including more video poetry, exclusively available to paid subscribers for the first week after release.
I hope your 2025 is marvelous and that you find every bit of the hope, care, and joy you deserve.
